BT announced yesterday that it is accelerating the roll out of its fibre broadband. In news that will delight internet users, 2/3 of UK premises will have super-fast broadband by the end of 2014. This new target is a year ahead of the original aim. BT said that it will employ an additional 520 engineers and invest a further £300 million into this in order to achieve the new goal. DBS Director David Clarke welcomed the news, saying how vital it was for businesses to have fast broadband speeds, not only to be able to do business in the UK, but to be able to compete with businesses overseas. “As more and more business is done online, it is vital to have an online presence and have access to the fastest broadband possible in order to compete with overseas business. We very much welcome this announcement”.
