DBS General Manager Julie Priestley took part in the Pretty Muddy Race for Life on Saturday 1st October to raise money for Cancer Research UK. The 5km obstacle course run took place at the Lincolnshire Showground, and was the first of its kind to take place in Lincolnshire. Speaking after the race, Julie said: “I find these events really inspiring – to see so many women of all different fitness levels coming together for such a worthy cause. Thankfully the weather was perfect, and looking across the field it was just a sea of pink, with lots and lots of people taking part. We all got very muddy, and it was hard but fun. But for me, the Race for Life isn’t about the event itself, it’s about the cause.” Julie decided to take part in the Race for Life shortly after her uncle was diagnosed with cancer at Christmas. Sadly he lost his fight with the disease just before Julie took part in the event. Many families find themselves in the same situation as Julie’s, as it is now estimated that 1 in 3 people in the UK will develop cancer at some point in their lifetime, so even if you don’t have it, there is a very high chance that someone close to you will at some point. Cancer Research UK pioneers life-saving cancer research to help beat cancer sooner .They are the world’s leading charity dedicated to beating cancer through research. They fight cancer on all fronts, finding new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat it to save more lives. But they need help to keep doing so, as they are entirely funded by the public. Julie has so far raised a fantastic £380 for this incredible charity, but is aiming to raise £1,000, so still has a long way to go. If you would like to help beat cancer sooner there is still time to make a donation, and any amount, big or small, would be very much appreciated. Donating is easy and can be done online via Julie’s JustGiving page here: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Pretty-Muddy-Julie Some photos of Julie taking part on the day are included below!
