Two members of the DBS Team, Managing Director Julie Priestley and Digital Consultant James Hopkins have spent the last month taking part in “March the Month” to raise vital funds for Prostate Cancer UK.
The aim was to walk at least 11,000 steps each per day for the entire month of March for the 11,000 men that die of prostate cancer in the UK each year.
Over the month, Julie and James have marched over 500,000 steps each, an incredible 1,021,691 steps in total, which is around 500 miles. That averages out at around 16,500 steps each per day, or roughly 8 miles each per day, way above the aim of the challenge.
So far, they have raised £2,220, over £1,000 each, which is a fantastic achievement. At the time of writing, they were the team with the 11th highest number of steps in the country, and the 4th highest amount in terms of donations – not bad for a team of two!
If you would like to contribute to their fundraising, you can visit their team page at https://marchthemonth.prostatecanceruk.org/teams/team-dbs-march-the-month – and then visit Julie and James’s profiles from there. Alternatively, you can go directly to their pages:

Both team members have had close family members affected by prostate cancer, with James having lost his dad in February this year from the condition, so this was a very personal fundraising challenge.
James said: “My wonderful Dad, Pete, passed away at the beginning of February from Metastatic Prostate Cancer. It was the worst moment of my life when the hospital called to tell me. I took part in “March the Month” to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK in memory of him and for the other sons out there who could have more time with their dads.
“We’re raising money to help fund lifesaving research and support services for men and their families affected by the disease. A huge thank you to everyone who has supported us so far. If you would like to support our fundraising, you still can – any amount big or small would be very welcome. Thank you.”
In the UK, prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men. One in eight men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. More than 47,500 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer every year – that’s 129 men every day, and every 45 minutes one man dies from prostate cancer. Currently, around 400,000 men in the UK are living with and after prostate cancer.
The whole DBS team has been proud to support Julie and James in their fundraising efforts over the last month and think they have done amazingly well.
